Let's Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month - How's Everyone Doing?!

May is here, and it's time to focus on our mental well-being as we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month. Our minds are just as important as our bodies, and dedicating time to understanding and nurturing our mental health is crucial for a balanced and fulfilling life. This month, let's raise awareness and make mental health a priority in our lives. Here are some ways to observe and participate in Mental Health Awareness Month:

Educate yourself and others about mental health: Read articles, watch documentaries, listen to podcasts, and attend webinars to expand your understanding of mental health issues.

Share your story: Connect with others who may be struggling by sharing your experiences with mental health challenges if you're comfortable doing so.

Advocate for change: Contact your local and national representatives, encouraging them to prioritize mental health policies and funding.

Participate in local events: Join walks, runs, or support groups in your community that promote mental health awareness.

Practice self-care: Prioritize your own mental health by establishing daily routines, creating good habits, setting boundaries, and seeking professional help when needed.

Spread the word on social media: Use your online platforms to share mental health resources and start conversations around mental well-being.

๐Ÿ’Š How To Take Your Dose:

This week, spend at least 20 minutes educating yourself about mental health issues. Use this knowledge to initiate conversations with friends, family, or colleagues. You can also participate in a local event or share helpful resources on social media. Remember, small steps can make a big difference in raising awareness and reducing stigma. One thought or resource that you share could help tons of people.

Keep That Heart of Yours Healthy!

A healthy heart is key to a healthy life, and prioritizing our cardiovascular health can significantly improve our overall well-being. By making a few changes to our daily habits, we can make a lasting impact on our heart health. Here are some tips for improving cardiovascular health:

Get moving: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week to strengthen your heart and reduce the risk of heart disease. This averages out to only 20 minutes a day!

Eat a heart-healthy diet: Incorporate whole grains, lean proteins, and a variety of fruits and vegetables into your meals.

Manage stress: Find healthy ways to cope with stress, such as mindfulness, meditation, or journaling.

Maintain a healthy weight: Work towards achieving a healthy BMI through mindful eating and movement.

Quit smoking: If you smoke, quitting is the best thing you can do for your heart health.

Limit alcohol consumption: Stick to the recommended guidelines for alcohol intake, and avoid binge drinking.

๐Ÿ’Š How To Take Your Dose:

Start by setting a specific, attainable goal to improve your cardiovascular health. For example, commit to taking a 30-minute walk during lunch breaks, or try incorporating a new heart-healthy recipe into your weekly meal plan. Keep track of your progress, and celebrate your successes along the way. Remember, consistency is key to long-lasting change.

Who Doesn't Like Makin' Some Extra Cash Money?!

Financial security is important to overall well-being, but traditional income streams can be limiting. Passive income is a way to earn money without actively working, allowing you to diversify your income streams and increase your financial stability.

Rent Out Your Property: If you have a spare room or property, consider renting it on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO.

Create an Online Course: Use your expertise to create and sell an online course on a platform like Udemy or Skillshare. Remember, knowledge is plentiful on the internet, but knowledge coming from an experienced vessel is not.

Invest in Dividend Stocks: Dividend stocks pay out a portion of a company's profits to shareholders, providing a steady source of income.

Rent Out Your Car: If you have a car you don't use frequently, consider renting it on a platform like Turo.

Sell Digital Products: Create and sell digital products, such as eBooks or digital art, on platforms like Etsy or Gumroad.

๐Ÿ’Š How To Take Your Dose:

If you're interested in generating passive income, start by researching the various methods and finding one that aligns with your skills and interests. Set realistic goals and develop a plan for how you'll achieve them. Start small and gradually build up your passive income streams over time. Remember that generating passive income often requires an initial investment of time and/or money, so be prepared to put in the effort upfront for a long-term payoff.

Keep the Lovin' and Intimacy Alive, It's Good For You!

Strong, meaningful relationships enrich our lives and contribute to our overall happiness. Fostering intimacy and connection takes effort, but the benefits are worth it. Here are some tips to help you nurture the relationships that matter most:

Be present: Give your full attention to your loved ones when you're together, and resist the urge to multitask. And please, PLEASE, stay off of your phone and be present at dinners and social gatherings!

Communicate openly: Share your feelings, thoughts, and concerns with your partner or friends, and encourage them to do the same.

Practice active listening: Show empathy and understanding by fully engaging in conversations and avoiding interruptions.

Show appreciation: Regularly express gratitude for the people in your life, and acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Engage in shared experiences: Strengthen your bond by participating in activities you both enjoy, such as hobbies, sports, or travel.

Be supportive: Offer encouragement and assistance during good and challenging times, and be a reliable source of comfort for your loved ones.

๐Ÿ’Š How To Take Your Dose:

This week, choose one of the tips mentioned above and consciously implement it in your daily interactions. For example, set aside 15 minutes daily to engage in distraction-free conversation with your partner, family member, or friend. Alternatively, plan a fun activity you can enjoy together over the weekend. Keep in mind that building deeper connections requires time and patience, so stay consistent and keep working on nurturing your relationships.

Real Stories From Real People

From Victim to Victor: How Terra Newell Learned To Thrive After Trauma

"My life changed forever on August 20, 2016, when I defended myself from my motherโ€™s abusive partner, John Meehan (aka Dirty John). The Netflix series and podcast showcased parts of this experience, but parts of my story donโ€™t always get shown, specifically what Iโ€™ve learned from it and how Iโ€™m working through the trauma.

Through this experience, Iโ€™ve found triumph, healing, and growth in the aftermath.

Seeing my motherโ€™s experience made me think about my own and the toxic relationship I found myself in after my partner hit me with his car. I am physically okay from it, but that also changed my reality and encouraged some self-reflection.

I have learned the importance of boundaries and being in tune with my body. Understanding my triggers and my fight or flight response has helped me recognize red flags in potential partners and get out of toxic relationships. Learning breathwork and nervous system regulation has also been key in my healing journey. I cannot stress enough how important it is for everyone to prioritize their mental and physical health, especially regarding relationships.

I have also noticed a trend in my clients who are in toxic relationships. They often have health issues such as autoimmune disorders, gastro issues, and thyroid problems. The stressors from these relationships are attacking their nervous systems and affecting their overall health and well-being. I notice that when I get stressed or anxious, I have tremors; when that happens, I have to do breathwork and come back to center myself. We all have different reactions when triggered, but itโ€™s about how we become aware of them and work to improve them.

Through my own experiences and work, Iโ€™ve learned how to teach people about these signs, how to get more in tune with their bodies, and how to find safety in themselves. Knowing that Iโ€™ve helped people in some way, even if they arenโ€™t receptive at first, has been fulfilling.

I know firsthand how difficult it can be to leave a toxic relationship, but it's important to recognize the toll it can take on your well-being. It's important to prioritize yourself and your health and to surround yourself with people who support and uplift you. I hope to empower others to recognize their worth, prioritize their happiness and well-being, see those red flags, and trust themselves enough to create boundaries and seek healthy relationships."
