ES ๐Ÿ 036: From US Open Victories to Life-Saving Coffee Chats

Welcome to ๐Ÿ Extra Sauce ๐Ÿ 036! This week, we're serving up a blend of inspiration, resilience, and self-care.

  • CoCo Gauff's historic US Open win, a teammateโ€™s incredible gesture, and a heartwarming encounter at Dunkinโ€™ Donuts

  • New product reviews

  • A note from Minaa about breathwork for stress management

  • Navigating social mediaโ€™s double-edged sword with Josh Seiter on the Off the Cuff Podcast

  • Over the weekend, fan-favorite CoCo Gauff won her first US Open. The 19-year-old becomes the youngest American player to win the US Open since 17-year-old Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam title on these courts in 1999. Gauff is the third female American teenager to win the US Open and the first to do it since Serena. Seeing a young athleteโ€™s dreams come true is inspiring and shows you can achieve so much with determination, hard work, and consistency ๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸŽพ ๐Ÿ†

  • Zack Conti, a man from Michigan, joined Eastern Michigan University's football team in 2019 as a walk-on. To balance school and football, Zack worked multiple jobs and even donated plasma for money. Despite the challenges, Zack persevered because he truly wanted to succeed. Inspired by Zack, his teammate Brian Dooley, a graduate student, decided to give his full-ride scholarship to Zack when he learned that Zack was considering quitting the team. This scholarship will cover the remainder of Zack's college and grad school. This act of kindness is truly incredible, and we love seeing good things happen to those who are truly deserving! ๐Ÿˆ

  • A stranger saw a homeless man at Dunkin' Donuts picking up change. The stranger bought him a coffee and bagel, and they talked. He shared his struggles and his desire to make his mom proud. His name was Chris, and he was sincere and honest. Before leaving, Chris gave the stranger a note expressing gratitude for saving him from suicidal thoughts. One act of kindness can truly make someoneโ€™s life better and even save their life. As we observe Suicide Awareness Month, this story is incredibly inspiring and reminds us to be kind to one another as we never know what silent battle someone is facing.

In S3 EP 14, Danny dives deep into the world of social media and its impact on mental health with guest Josh Seiter. Josh, having experienced the highs and lows of media attention, offers a unique perspective on the double-edged sword that is social media. From being declared dead in the media to facing the challenges of public scrutiny, Josh's story is a testament to resilience and self-worth.

Josh Seiter is not just a survivor of a media storm but also a beacon of hope for those struggling with their mental health in the age of social media. Throughout the episode, he shares poignant insights such as, โ€œJust because people are momentarily interested in you, it doesn't make you better than anyone.โ€ โ€“ (7:57), and โ€œMy self-worth isnโ€™t based on what other people think of me, good or bad.โ€ โ€“ (8:40).

His journey to healing, rediscovering family, and finding purpose is a powerful reminder of the importance of valuing oneself and seeking genuine connections in a world dominated by fleeting online interactions.
