One of the best ways to foster connection is to prioritize quality time: Make a conscious effort to spend quality time with your loved ones, whether it be going on a date, having a family game night, or simply having a phone call to catch up.

In "Off The Cuff" Season 2, Episode 18, Jason Kander joins host Danny LoPriore to share his journey from serving in Afghanistan to running for political office, and ultimately, his decision to prioritize his mental health and seek treatment for PTSD.

"I think even more than the validation that \[my diagnosis\] provided to me was the clarity...It does feel a little like, okay, so now I know what to do." (14:56)

Jason Kander

Jason discusses how therapy helped him process the trauma he experienced during his military service and come to terms with his PTSD diagnosis after more than a decade. He emphasizes the importance of seeking help and how his diagnosis provided not only validation but also a clear path forward.

One of the big things that I worked through in therapy was … this sense that I hadn't done enough. I mean, it was just this constant refrain because I had friends who had been hurt physically. I had plenty of friends who had been overseas longer than me. So I had this real sense that I had not done enough and it drove me for a very long time. And what I realize now is that I actually have done quite a lot and I have done enough. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna do more for my country, but it won't be because I feel I have to, or I owe it. It'll be because that's what I want to do. (07:34)

Jason Kander

In this candid conversation, Jason also addresses the need for systemic change in how the United States supports and cares for its veterans, particularly regarding mental health resources and the stigma surrounding seeking help.

This episode offers valuable insights into the challenges faced by veterans transitioning back to civilian life and the importance of prioritizing mental health and seeking support when needed. Jason's story serves as a powerful reminder that it's never too late to ask for help and that doing so can lead to greater clarity, purpose, and personal growth.
