24 years ago, after the fires in central Java, an Indonesian man decided to do something to save the drought-prone mountainous region. Sadiman, who goes by one name, started to plant banyan and ficus trees to make the green forest denser. โ He has planted over 250 hectares (617 acres) of trees that help to retain groundwater and prevent land erosion and forest fires. Itโs amazing to see his efforts pay off and help others! ๐ฒ ๐ณ
In 2010, German gynecologist Frank Hoffmann started the social enterprise called โDiscovering Hands.โ It trains blind and visually impaired women as Medical Tactile Examiners (MTEs) to detect breast cancer in its early stages. Itโs expanded to India, and since 2017, 18 MTEs have received this training. They are currently working in hospitals in Delhi and Bengaluru. We hope for more future expansion! ๐ค
